Examines how social policy is framed and valued in Africa, its relationship with economic policy, and its effects on gender, class and spatial inequalities, with the aim of advancing a transformative and gender-equitable social policy agenda.

Examines the prevention of and responses to gender-based violence within migrant communities in Ghana, focusing on the help- and justice-seeking experiences of female Nigerian migrants.

Explores changing barriers to the adoption and use of digital technologies in sub-Saharan Africa, with particular attention to emerging “after-access” challenges and the evidence needed for context-specific policy and regulatory responses.

Investigates the aspirations and barriers experienced by young Ghanaians from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially young women, in accessing green jobs and explores how environmentally sustainable employment can contribute to fulfilling livelihoods.

Examines how formal and informal taxation affects workers and enterprises in Accra’s informal economy, with particular attention to differences by gender, sector and position within informal value chains.

Examines young women’s experiences of platform work in Ghana and explores how the increasing digitisation of work affects women’s livelihoods, working conditions and opportunities for economic empowerment.

Examined young people’s livelihood pathways in Ghana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe within areas experiencing agricultural commercialisation, with attention to employment opportunities, risks and changing rural economies.

Examined the roles, representations and public perceptions of women in contemporary Ghana through a combination of desk research and primary data collection, covering women’s socio-economic participation, media representation and gendered social norms.

Tracks tertiary graduates in Ghana as they transition from National Service into the labour market, examining their education, skills, work experience and employment outcomes to better understand the challenges facing young graduates.

Assessed the experiences of rural households benefiting from solar photovoltaic systems in northern Ghana, using surveys and focus group discussions across 40 communities to examine access, use and outcomes of the rural electrification initiative.
